In Star Trek Online shields are in the front, the sides and the back. By balancing shields, the result is equal defence on all sides, however if the player decides to transfer more power to a specfic side then the defence for that side will increase at the cost of all the shields decreasing in defence power. Take down the shields and you will be vulnerable to attacks, just like the Star Trek TV series that most of us are familiar with.

So how do you get your hands on more ships? 3 factors: Ranking up, Starfleet Merits and Energy Credits.

You will rank up by simply getting skill points as you complete missions and defeat enemies. Then you will move up ranks, which consequently gives you access to more ships. To buy ships you will need starfleet merits, which is one of the two currencies used in Star Trek Online. Merits are essentially used to promote bridge officers and buy new ships.

So what makes Star Trek Online Ships different from other MMORPG featuring space ships?

• Gameplay will be centred around balancing energy and positioning of the ship
• There will be three ship classes: Science ship class, Escort ship class and Cruiser ship class
• Different weapons will have different range and angle of attacks
• Ships are able to dive or fly higher with pitch control of the ship
• Velocity or speed of the ship can be control: Fast, slow, stop or even reverse
• Special abilities and attributes boost will various slots for upgrades, bridge officer assigning
• Captains can get up to 4 active abilities and 1 passive
